The cohesion of the different forces and Cuban means was used for the defense of a zone besieged by a supposed enemy, with the use of tanks, infantry, artillery and aviation.

The success of the territorial device against several attempts of invasion was praised by the President of the Provincial Defense Council of Havana Ivan Ordaz, at the end of the military exercise Moncada 2007.

In statements to media, he affirmed the capacity and preparation of FAR (Revolutionary Armed Forces), MTT (Territorial Troops Military men) and the peoples was demonstrated.

He added that the territory worked strongly during the exercise, which concluded Nov 23 with a positive balance in the preparation for the defense of all troops.

The practices were developed from Monday 19 and the brigades of production and defense next to MTT and control organizations at all the levels had an outstanding participation, he affirmed.

Heads and officials described as successful the five days of Moncada 2007, including central and western provinces, with actions in all the structures of the armed and not armed component.

This training exercise is a way to maintain the military invulnerability of Cuba.

The Cuban State Council has set January 20, 2008 as the date for the elections of delegates to Provincial Assemblies of People’s Power and deputies to National Parliament for a term of five years.

The call, signed by First Vice President of the State Council Raul Castro Ruz and broadcast on Tuesday by TV Noticias, notes that the second stage of the July 9 general elections will also take place on that date.

The announcement comes four days after the Municipal Assemblies were constituted, elected in the first stage of general elections in which more than the 96 percent of Cuban voters participated.

The exercise of chiefs, and command and direction organs, known as Moncada 2007, has commenced today in the territories of the Central and Western Armies and large units subordinate directly to the Ministry of the Revolutionary Armed Forces — MINFAR.

During five days, until November 23, exercises will be conducted with the participation of command and direction organs of armed and unarmed structured components, armed units and the shoring of regular troops, Territorial Troops Militia (MTT) and a part of the population integrate to the defense zones.

Moncada 2007 will serve to measure the preparation of command and direction organs as well as demonstrate the abilities reached in different categories of personnel in the Year of Defense Preparation.

These exercises will make possible the constant improvement of the strategic concept of the War of All the People, which will be ultilized to comfront and obtain victory against an armed agression against the nation.

Undercover Cuban officials (diplomats) attended a UN human rights news conference where government officials are strictly prohibited from attending.

The United Nations has expressed regret that undercover Cuban officials attended a U.N. news conference on human rights, where they sought information on a French journalist asking critical questions about Fidel Castro’s regime.

Elena Ponomareva, spokeswoman for the global body’s European headquarters, said she was unable to prevent two Cuban diplomats from entering the Oct. 11 news event with Jean Ziegler, a U.N. rights expert who was preparing for a mission to the communist-run island.

The U.N. strictly prohibits government officials from attending news conferences unless they are explicitly invited and included among those presenting. Previous run-ins have occurred with Sudanese diplomats seeking to monitor rights officials speaking about Darfur.

Prensa Latina is reporting that Wang Zhaoguo, a member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of China Communist Party, arrived in Havana on an official visit to be run until November 15.

Zhaoguo and his accompanying delegation was welcomed at the Havana airport Monday by Cuba’s Communist Party Central Committtee’s International Relations Department chief Fernando Remirez de Estenoz, that department vice chief Oscar Martinez, and Chinese ambassador to Cuba Zhao Xian Reng.

Zhaoguo is scheduled to meet with the island’s political and government authorities, and visit sites of historic, scientific and economic interest.
